Goodwill Social Work Centre is a registered Indian Non-governmental organisation registered as a Society under the Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act 27 of 1975, Government of Tamilnadu {India}, Foreign Contributions (Regulations) Act 1976, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. It is duly registered under section 12-A {b} of the Income Tax Act 1961.It is a registered member of the Civil Society Organisation {CSO} Constituency of the India CCM (www.indiaccm.org). Founded in 1981, Dr.J.Christopher Daniel, Founder and Executive Director of Goodwill social work centre, a professionally trained Social work educator was prompted to set up a charity to work with children and young people and their families in distress with an aim to apply the ‘Goodwill social work model’ as a practice mode and an approach ’ he has developed. As a Professor of social work at the Madurai Institute of social work, Madurai,India since 1981, his academic experiences in teaching social work practice with children and school social work to a number of trainee social workers at the post graduate level and his articles on various issues concerning children and their rights which were published in national journals and newspapers developed in him an avid interest and a strong urge to set up a charity with a motto ‘OUR CONCERN-EVERY CHILD’ to provide a wide spectrum of roles in the development of children, youth women in dysfunctional families in particular.He has recently won the UnltdWorld(UK) Global Impact BRIC(Business,Resources,Insight and Community)Award 2009 for his achievement in social entrepreneurship.
Since its inception our organisation has been working in the areas of children's rights, children’s rights through artwork, Children’s environmental health rights, humanitarian aid, Intensive family preservation of dysfunctional families, Youth and women development, on-formal employment training for youth, community technology services, environment education and action, social research,, NGO capacity building and networking and NGO consultancy. GOODWILL is highly professional in its approach and its methods are underpinned by a strong academic research ethos. Highly impressed by the professionalism in GOODWILL’s governance and management of programmes,the Global Links Initiative(www.glinet.org) ,a registered company and a charity in the United Kingdom has entered into a partnership agreement with GOODWILL on 6th October 2007 to work together to provide services and capacity building programmes for GLI Networkers in Tamilnadu,India. Our mission is to profess and practice ‘Goodwill social work’ as a philosophy, a practice mode and an approach, which is preventative, rehabilitative and developmental in perspective and based on the principles of scientific humanism in line with the professional social work model. It combines social philanthropy, professional social work and social development.
The Goodwill Social Work Centre has set up a Children's Rights Centre (CRC) with a prime objective of proclaiming, protecting and defending Children's rights as affirmed in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989).The CRC has been providing a variety of services to children,parents,teachers and civil society groups School children’s forums, Teachers’ and parents’ associations, farmers’ associations, Co-operatives, women’s groups, self help groups (men and women), rural youth clubs/Associations, Residents’ welfare associations, grassroots level NGOs, political groups and NSS volunteers and Youth groups in schools.
Our Centre has been taking up up ‘Children’s Rights Artwork project'through its ‘Children’s Rights Centre’ for rural and urban children in and around Madurai, Tamilnadu, South India under the aegis of the Art Venture, Singapore This is an innovative programme for children in the age group 7-17,which aims at providing ways to learn,debate,raise awareness and foster activism about their rights to survival,protection,development,participation as enshrined in the UN Convention on the rights of the child(1989) through artwork.Photographs of our child rights based programmes cane be viewed at the following web links:

As part our children's rights and MDGs campaigns to promote the rights to water and environment among school children ,our Centre conducted a series of Poster contests for school children on the theme 'WHAT WATER MEANS IN MY LIFE' on 8th March 2008 to celebrate the International Water Day, which falls on 22nd March every year. This is part of the 'Children's Rights through artwork project' supported by ART VENTURE, Singapore. 366 children in the age group of four to 17 years from 47 schools participated. At the 2nd World Water Day International Poster Contest organised by Nature's Voice-Our Choice,USA in April 2009 three of our children from Madurai,India (out of six non US international students) under our 'Children's rights through artwork project' supported by ART VENTURE,Singapore have been declared as winners . As part of our art training programme for children we conducted a series of poster contests on the themes 'Water and Culture" and 'right to environment' for school children from 15th February 2009 to 10th March 2009 in and around Madurai,Tamilnadu,India.Indeed, Of 2440 posters made by children, 966 posters were selected for submission to the Nature's Voice-Our choice,USA for the 2009 World water Day International Poster contest.It is a proud moment for GOODWILL to make known that three children under the Children's rights through artwork project have been selected as international poster contest winners.
Of 3000 children from 8 different countries and throughout the United States participated in the 2nd annual International Poster Contest 2009 sponsored by Nature's Voice-Our Choice ,USA. Of12 children were selected as International poster contest winners 3 children are from GOODWILL,Madurai,India.
Based on our experiences in the promotion and protection of the rights of the child through various initiatives,the Goodwill social work centre proposes to take up a rights based programme for children and local communities with a view to promoting MDGs through Children's rights education,the arts and the media.
